Moving to Zagreb, Croatia.

I will travel to Zagreb, Croatia, by train.
The train tickets are normally quite expensive, but I bought them online in advance, so I was able to get them for 29 euros (approximately 3,950 yen).

The scenery from the train window on this Salzburg to Zagreb route is stunning.
It passes through the mountains north of Venice.

Youth Hostel Zagreb
Dormitory, 2 nights for 182.40 Kuna (approximately 3,280 yen), no meals included.
Approximately 1,640 yen per night.

Since I am not a youth hostel member, I had to pay a little over 1 euro extra per night. However, it seems they will issue a youth hostel membership card that is valid for one year, so it might not be a bad deal compared to becoming a youth hostel member. That being said, I don't really stay at youth hostels very often...

Zagreb old town.

Walking around the old town of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.

Purchase a Croatian SIM card at the VIP location in Zagreb.

I purchased a Croatian SIM card at a VIP store in Zagreb.
It was valid for 30 days and allowed up to 3GB of data usage, and it cost around 53 kuna (approximately 950 yen).

There were several mobile phone shops nearby, so I had planned to check out a few, but since the first one I saw had a reasonable price, I decided to buy it there.

The Zagreb Cathedral (Cathedral of Zagreb, Zagrebačka katedrala).

Visit the Zagreb Cathedral (Cathedral of Zagreb, Zagrebačka katedrala).
It is quite magnificent, being the cathedral of the capital city, but it probably doesn't quite reach the level of Prague or Vienna.

Zagreb (Zagreb) St. Mark's Church (Crkva sv. Marka).

I went to see St. Mark's Church (Crkva sv. Marka), which is located on a hill in Zagreb.
It is a small church.

The front door was closed, but the side door was open, but I could not go inside to the area with the chairs.

Croatian History Museum (Hrvatski Povijesni Muzej)

I visited the Croatian History Museum (Hrvatski Povijesni Muzej), and there was a photo exhibition about the Croatian War.

I remember seeing news reports about it when I was a child, but I don't remember much. The Croatian conflict, or the Yugoslav conflict, happened just 20 years ago. I thought it was something that happened more than half a century ago, but it was actually a relatively recent conflict. Now it's a peaceful town, but the fact that it went from being a communist country to independence and then to civil war is proof that territorial issues can quickly lead to war.

Archaeological Museum in Zagreb.

I went to the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb.
It is quite well-equipped, as you would expect from a capital city, but compared to Vienna, it seems to be smaller in scale.
