First, I will stay overnight in Popayán, which is 180km from Cali.
It seems that due to the regional elections in Colombia tomorrow (Sunday, the 25th), land and river border checkpoints will be closed from 6:00 PM on October 23rd to 4:00 PM on October 25th. However, I will be passing through a few days later, so it should not be a problem. Conversely, security will be tight during this period, and even if people are moving around, they will likely be focused on the elections, so I hope the main roads will be relatively safe. It is said that tens of thousands of people will be involved in security until the 26th.
There are several anti-government organizations, and while the major ones are currently in a ceasefire with the government, some of the lower-level members are in a situation where they are struggling to find food, and it seems that new organizations have been established in the region. Therefore, there have been some kidnappings, although they are not specifically targeting Japanese people. Basically, I will be moving with a schedule that avoids going out at night.
As I got closer to Popayán, I realized that I had traveled 600km and had not yet put any fuel in the reserve tank, so I stopped to refuel, and it took exactly 3 gallons (11.4L). It cost 24,000 pesos (approximately 950 yen), so it's about 83 yen per liter. The fuel efficiency is 52km/L. The tank is 16L, so theoretically, I should be able to travel 800km. It seems like a good idea to refuel when the fuel gauge drops below half, which would be around 400km.
And today, I arrived at my accommodation in Popayán.
This is where I am staying:
Hotel Torreon Popayan
Double room: 30,000 pesos (approximately 1,250 yen), no breakfast.
It is a spacious and comfortable hotel.
Tomorrow is Sunday, and the motorcycle shop will be closed, so I will get an oil change a little early, even though it's 650km away.
The first oil change is scheduled to be done between 500-1000km, so I could have waited a little longer.
I was also considering staying until the day after tomorrow, but since I arrived in Popayán early today, I asked them to change the oil, and it cost 20,000 pesos (approximately 780 yen). At this price, it's worth changing it early without hesitation. I'm glad I didn't have to wait until the day after tomorrow. In the end, I was able to get the oil changed at a regular shop without any worries, so that's good. By the way, I don't know the oil capacity.
Bogotá is at an altitude of 2600m, Cali is at 1100m, and Popayán is at 1700m.
