Departing for the ruins by rental car.

I decided to rent a car in Veliko Tarnovo and drive to the Buzludzha Monument, which is about 80km away.

In the town, I found two car rental companies and contacted them by phone or email. One of them was unreachable, and when I went to the office of the unreachable company, there was no one there. So, although it was a little far from the old town, I rented a car from the following company:

Kamen Cars
http://www.kamen-cars.com/

The map (Google Map) on the homepage is incorrect. The correct location is as follows:

There was only a sign at the location of the homepage, and I finally arrived after asking people at nearby shops.
I took a detour.

And then I rented a car.
It's a Mercedes-Benz Smart.

In Japan, this Smart is marketed as a stylish car, but in Europe, it seems to be positioned as a "cheap, poorly made, economy car." It seems that it is positioned as economical because the body is lightweight and does not consume much fuel. For trips like this, it is more than sufficient.

Actually, the door doesn't fit well, and when I tried to move the window up and down, it got stuck in the middle, so I had to adjust the angle slightly by hand and then use the button again to raise and lower the window. It's not just cheap; it's also probably because it's been used a lot. It has 200,000 kilometers on it. The original construction is also cheap, but more than that, it seems like they haven't done much maintenance. It's strange that a rental car is dirty and dusty from the beginning.

The price is 30 lev (approximately 2,070 yen) for one day... that's cheap.
Well, at this price, I guess it's okay if I don't clean it.

In addition to that, I was asked to pay a deposit of 200 lev (approximately 13,800 yen), but since I didn't have Bulgarian lev, I used US$100 instead. It seems there were no problems.

The fuel tank was almost empty initially, so you have to fill it up with the amount you use, and return it with the same amount.

And then, we set off.

Bulgaria has a lot of nature and is suitable for driving.

Buzludzha Monument.

(For those who missed the previous installment)

And we arrived at the Buzludzha Monument.

The moment I saw it, I was really excited for the first time in a while!
Amazing!
The view from the top of the tower is also the best.

This is a building from the communist era, and it seems that party congresses and summits were held here in the past.

I returned safely, but apparently, two people died here, and there was a grave.
The ceiling is in terrible condition. A hat is a must. A flashlight is also necessary if you want to climb the tower.
