Move to Huaraz.

Today, I will go to Huaraz again, and the altitude will increase again. This area is full of stunning views.
If you only consider the scenery, it might be comparable to Patagonia. The altitude changes rapidly from the coastline to 3000m, so you feel dizzy at first. I've become somewhat accustomed to it due to the mountainous regions of Bolivia and Peru, so my adaptation seems to be relatively quick.

Tomorrow and the day after, I will be going on hiking tours to different locations.
- A glacier located southwest of the town. It's a 1-hour trek each way to reach a location over 5000m.
- A trek to a pond located northeast of the town. It's about 8km one way, and takes about 3 hours each way. The altitude is around 4500m.
I have a feeling this will be the most challenging trek so far.

After arriving, I performed maintenance on the motorcycle.
- Oil change
- Oil filter replacement
- Chain replacement (surprisingly, they had Japanese-made chains in stock)
The total cost was about 6000 yen.
The chain wouldn't stay on, so I replaced it. For the past few days, I've had to adjust the chain position every day, so it was necessary to replace it.
After the motorcycle shop replaced the chain, they noticed that the adjustment position was quite far back, so they pointed it out and shortened it. You have to pay attention to these details.

While walking around the city, I saw many people offering shoe polishing services, and they kept coming up to me because of my dirty shoes.
I thought it would be better to clean them after the hiking tours tomorrow and the day after, but...
Since dealing with them is a hassle, I had them polished for 2 sols, which is about 70 yen.

Tomorrow, I'm going on a tour to see the Pastoruri glacier.
The day after, I'm going to see the 69 Lakes.

Both are 1-day tours for 35 sols (about 1200 yen). No meals are included.
A 2-night, 3-day tour is expensive for one person, so it's not ideal. If I come back again with two or more people sometime, I might consider it. There are also 10-day tours, but that seems a bit long.
For Japanese people, it's relatively unknown and has low recognition, but it seems similar to Patagonia in terms of trekking points. It might become more popular. It doesn't seem to have as many routes as the Himalayas, but it's similar in terms of altitude and stunning views.

Pastorello Glacier.

I will go to see the Pastoruri glacier on a tour.
It is a one-day tour for 35 soles (approximately 1200 yen).
It does not include meals.

The Puya raimondii, which blooms flowers before it dies, blooms once every few decades, and its blooming season is in September, so it is not currently in bloom. Even so, this unusual plant, which I have never seen anywhere else, is very interesting.

The following is a question: Is this a person who has lived for several decades, or an elderly person?

It seems that this is still young.

It is said that there was no lake three years ago.

According to the guide, if things continue as they are, almost all of the glaciers will disappear in seven years.
By the way, this place is approximately 5000 meters above sea level.

69 Glaciers

Trekking at Lake 69. One-day tour for 35 soles (approximately 1200 yen). No meals included.

It was tough to climb from an altitude of 3800m to 4600m. It was 7km one way.
It took 3 hours to go up and 2 hours and 15 minutes to go down.A beautiful lake. A lake formed by the melting snow of a glacier. I am satisfied.Next, I was considering whether or not to participate in a 2-night, 3-day (or 3-night, 4-day depending on the organizing company) trekking course in Santa Cruz, but since I was somewhat satisfied today, and also because I twisted my left ankle on the return trip, which isn't a big deal, but trekking for 3-4 days in that condition would be difficult, so I will take a rest day tomorrow and go to a nearby hot spring. Even without that, I'm completely exhausted today.

Monterrey Onsen (Monterrey Banos)

After trekking, I relaxed my muscles at a nearby hot spring.
The temperature is perfect for Japanese people, and it's cloudy water that warms you up. Because it's a private room, you can relax quite a bit. The price is 4 sols (about 130 yen).
I think I prefer this water quality to the hot springs in Baños, Ecuador.
I think there's a similar water quality somewhere in Hokkaido. There are three pools, one with room temperature water, another with lukewarm water, and the third with slightly warmer lukewarm water. For Japanese people, the water temperature in the private rooms is just right.

The 3-day, 4-night trekking tour in Santa Cruz costs 300 soles (approximately 9800 yen) and seems to be held tomorrow.
I was hesitant, but it seems that the weather will be unstable for about a week starting tomorrow, and the weather forecast is not good, so I decided not to go.
The probability of precipitation for the 4 days is 40%, 50%, 70%, and 80%, so even if I go, I would be walking on a slippery path in the rain for a long time, and the views would be poor. Also, it's tent camping, so rain would be tough.
It's normal for the weather to change easily in the mountains, but right now, the Andes are in the dry season, and the usual daily probability of precipitation is 20%. It's normal for it to rain lightly occasionally during the dry season. A probability of precipitation of 70-80% is not normal and probably means it will rain.
Even when it rains, it's usually sunny in the morning and rains in the afternoon. This is not a problem for sightseeing, but it's tough for trekking. And it's raining every day.
I'm interested, but I think I'll save it for next time.
