The British Museum and Shunka (Shunga) Exhibition [London]
From the moment I landed at the airport, the atmosphere felt like it matched me, and even though it was my first time here, I felt like I was experiencing a sense of déjà vu, as if this place had been my hometown in a distant past.
I'm only now realizing how bad the air quality in Bangalore is.
Even though London also has a certain level of air pollution and is ranked among the cities with the worst, the air here feels incredibly clean. This means that the air quality in Bangalore must be extremely poor. I'm surprised I haven't gotten seriously ill all this time.
When I went to Tokyo, I also felt that the air was clean.
It's understandable that some people feel sick just by breathing the air at the airport when they come to Bangalore. It must be because the air quality is really bad.
Speaking of London, I stayed in a hotel in an area within walking distance of the British Museum, but it was incredibly expensive.
The price was so high that it surpassed the most expensive hotel I've ever stayed in, which was in the United States (New York, Washington, Niagara Falls). (Laugh)
And now, I'm heading to the British Museum.

I came to London for a break during the New Year's holidays.

Musical: Once [London]
I had never seen this movie, and I didn't even know the name of this musical, but apparently, it's a popular work in some circles.

National Gallery and "The Lion King" musical [London].
Today, I went to the National Gallery.
This place exhibits European paintings.
Following the British Museum the other day, this place was also very large, so I spent the entire day visiting.
When I rented the audio guide, there was a booklet that recommended a "1-hour course," but at my pace, 1 hour was definitely not enough. I wondered how anyone could see this in 1 hour. Perhaps if you only listened to the guided explanations and didn't look at any other paintings, you could do it in 1 hour.
The recommended number of works is only 40, but you can listen to explanations for many other paintings on the same audio guide, so I listened to the explanations while looking at the paintings that interested me.
When I rented it, I could choose Japanese, but I chose English because there were more explanations available in English.
I entered the museum a little after the opening time of 10:00 and left at 5:00 in the evening. I had a late breakfast and made it a brunch, so I didn't have any meal breaks, which is why it took so long. There were many chairs, so I was able to sit and look at the paintings, which was good. If I had to stand the whole time, my stamina might have been in danger.

After the National Gallery, I went to see the musical "The Lion King."
I haven't seen the movie, and I don't know much about the content, but the production was elaborate, the English was easy to understand, and the plot was easy to follow (it felt like a classic), so I was able to enjoy it easily.
The first song, "Circle of Life," is probably the best.
A set of the CD and bonus DVD was being sold for 16 pounds (about 2700 yen), so I bought it.
National History Museum and the musical "Let it be" [London].
Even though I arrived just in time for the 10:00 opening, there was already a line.
I was able to get in without waiting too long, but it would have been dangerous if I had arrived a little later.
I shouldn't have underestimated the Sunday and the end of the year. Also, this place is free.

Today, I went to the National History Museum from the morning.

Tate Modern Museum and countdown fireworks (London Eye) [London]
According to the forecast, it will rain a little at night, but it seems to be basically okay.
The weather in the British winter is normally like this, so I don't worry about it too much.

Today it is raining, but my plan is to visit museums, so it is not a problem.

Tate Britain Museum, Sherlock Holmes Museum (abandoned) [London]
Wallace Collection, and "Mamma Mia!" musical viewing.
I started walking south from Baker Street, wandering aimlessly.
Along the way, I saw a real estate advertisement displayed in a window, so I took a look. The houses in a prime location were single-family homes worth hundreds of millions of yen, which certainly made me feel the high land prices. I usually expect to see affordable properties displayed in the windows, but even then, I only saw properties and rentals worth around 80 million yen or monthly rents of tens of thousands of yen, so perhaps that's the normal price range in this area.
As I was walking, I suddenly realized that there was a museum called the Wallace Collection near my current location on Google Maps, so I decided to go in without any expectations.

This is a hit.
The paintings are also excellent, and what was particularly good was that the display of armor and weapons was quite comprehensive and well-maintained. As expected, the "collection" by a famous person (or so it seems) of the British Empire is of a high level.
After unexpectedly enjoying it, I took a walk around the city and then returned to the hotel.
And in the evening, I watched the musical "Mamma Mia."

It seems that this uses a lot of songs by the group ABBA.
The story was also quite easy to understand, so I enjoyed it more than I expected.
Until yesterday, I was trying to get seats in the first row, but today I tried seats in the second row. It feels a bit distant, but it's good that I can see the back clearly. However, I still prefer the first row. I think the sense of presence is stronger in the first row. The downside of the first row is that it can be difficult to see because of the person in front.
Science Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum [London]
It seems like there are many exhibits related to the Industrial Revolution. Also, there were many exhibits about airplanes and space.
It's surprisingly large in scale.
I saw many children.
After that, I went to the Victoria and Albert Museum, which is right next door.I wasn't expecting much, but it's large in scale and has a wide range of exhibits.
It seems to be a facility for educational purposes. There are study guides everywhere.
For educational purposes, they apparently brought entire columns from Italy. Hmm.
I wanted to see it a little more slowly, but it was large, and because I had just visited the Science Museum, I ended up rushing through it.
Wicked musical [London]
First, I checked the basic plot while having dinner.I checked it casually, but the characters are based on "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," and I had forgotten that story, and also, there are quite a few detailed settings, so it was good to check beforehand.
If I had watched it without checking, I probably wouldn't have understood it.
It's a story that I think girls would enjoy.
It's like, a beautiful woman who is a bit too much is rejected by a boy, but if she becomes a good person, even if she's not conventionally attractive, she can end up with a man.
The stage design was also elaborate, and above all, I was able to see the entire stage clearly from a relatively good seat in the middle of the first floor, which was the best thing. It would have been better if I were a little closer, but it was fine.
The singing was also excellent.
Overall, I enjoyed it.
Greenwich and the musical "Billy Elliot" [London].
First, I went along the river and then got on a boat.
I didn't check the schedule, so I waited for a while, but I was able to board the boat and arrived in Greenwich.

This place has many art museums, but first, let's go to the observatory.
When I checked with GPS, I found that there is a very slight error, but the longitude is 0. Hmm.

I visited several museums and enjoyed the wonderful paintings inside a church, and then returned to the city.
Tonight, I watched the musical "Billy Elliot" (Japanese title: Little Dancer), but the accent was strong and difficult to understand. I think it's an Irish accent? I gradually got used to it.
I hadn't seen the movie or researched it much before buying the ticket, so I checked the plot summary on my smartphone beforehand. The story is moving, and the child actor playing the main role is very convincing. It might be my best musical in recent years. I didn't expect much, but I really enjoyed it, even though I couldn't understand some of the details.
There are so many different kinds of musicals.
National Portrait Gallery and Covent Garden [London].
I used to read Sherlock Holmes novels when I was a child, but I don't remember much of them.
So, I decided to go to the National Portrait Gallery.
On the way, I tried to return my Oyster card at a station, but they said I needed an ID card like a passport, so I put it off. From Piccadilly Circus station, I passed through the area where many musical tickets are sold and headed to the National Portrait Gallery.

This morning, I went to the Sherlock Holmes Museum, which I had given up on seeing due to the long line the other day, shortly before its opening time. However, even 10 minutes after the opening time, there was already a line of about an hour. Since I didn't really want to see it that much, I decided to skip it again, thinking I could come back next time.

We Will Rock You musical [London]

This is a musical based on songs by the rock band Queen.
It's a story about seeking love and freedom and reviving rock in a world where rock is forbidden, but it seems like the story is added later, and the music is the main focus.
Since I'm not familiar with the band, I wondered what it would be like, but then I realized I recognized the melody of "We will rock you."

I don't often listen to this type of rock music, so it was a little boring at first, but it became quite interesting towards the end, and I enjoyed it.
This time, the seats were very good. I was in the best position, the third row from the front, in the center, so the vibrations from the speakers were transmitted directly to my body.
However, it might have been a seat where only the rhythm sounds were heard, and the vocals were a little hard to hear. Perhaps that's too much to ask for.
Something like this is nice sometimes.
And tomorrow, I will be returning to India.
