Périto Moreno, individual tour, 2015.

Move to Perito Moreno.

Today, we will first travel to Perito Moreno, which is 60km away.
The view of the lake is beautiful.

Perito Moreno motorcycle parts store.

In this town, there was a small motorcycle and car parts store, so I bought a chain there, and I had a car factory in the same town install the chain.

The chain costs about twice the price I paid for it in Chile, and I'm not sure if it's because of the quality of the product or simply the high prices in Argentina. The box is written in Japanese hiragana, "nihon hinshitsu" (Japanese product), but it's made in China. I thought, "Made in China again..." but it seems like it's a different product than the one I had before, so either way, I expect it will continue to be a product that will increase in price, so even though it feels expensive, I bought the chain as a safety measure. The parts store doesn't seem to do installations, so I had it done at another place, but the labor cost was separate, so in total, it was quite expensive. Patagonia seems to have high prices for both parts and labor, but there's not much around, so it's understandable to some extent.

This parts store is run by an elderly couple, and there are pictures on the wall of what appear to be an elderly man and woman riding motorcycles, so they probably used to ride motorcycles around the area. The elderly man and woman were both efficiently checking the part numbers for motorcycle parts.

Currently, this store is the only motorcycle parts store in this town, but considering the age of the elderly couple, it's uncertain whether it will last another 10 years. After that, this town, Perito Moreno, might become a place where you can't even get motorcycle parts.

The store operates on a rural schedule, sometimes not opening until 10:20 AM even though it's supposed to open at 10:00 AM, but for some reason, there are many customers, so there must be a demand. Perhaps if this store disappears, someone might take over the business or a new store might be created, but it's unclear what will happen to the motorcycle side of things, as the demand seems to be more for car parts. It felt like they started carrying motorcycle parts because of the elderly couple's hobby. They don't seem to be making a lot of money from motorcycles.

I also wanted to replace the rear tire if they had one in stock, but it seems they don't. Hmm.

So, I replaced the Chinese-made chain, which I only used for 1500 km, with a new Chinese-made chain that says "Made in Japan" on it, and then I set off. As expected, it runs smoothly at first. The problem is how it will perform after running for 1000-2000 km.

Purchased a medium-sized wrench for use in chain adjustment.

I purchased a tool for adjusting the chain position. It was expensive at 460 Pesos (approximately 4,000 yen) at Patagonia, but there was nothing I could do. It's a cost for peace of mind and a learning experience.
